By November 1, 2013 Blog No Comments

Have you ever thought that your office might not be the greenest place to be? There are many little things in the office that can be changed to make a difference.

Just like at home, it would be a good idea to have a programmable thermostat. When no one is in the office, the lights can be turned off; the heating and cooling temperatures can be lowered and raised.

We’ve compiled this handy step-by-step checklist to start making your office greener – You don’t have to change the world all at once… every small step makes a difference! Let’s start

Choose Eco-Friendly Supplies

Most of your everyday essentials are available in recycled options. Order recycled copy paper, file folders, tape, adhesive notes, pens and more!

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Provide recycling containers near printers and copiers and in your break rooms, and encourage your co-workers to recycle paper, bottles and cans. First of all, we can cut back by only printing what is a really necessary and using cartridge that contain recycled content and are remanufactured. Look also into refilling the ink cartridges that you currently have instead of buying new ones.

Did you know that petroleum bases ink is the most abundantly used ink in the United States but 40% of it is made of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that can be harmful to soil and groundwater and contribute to air pollution and global warming? There are many things that can be done to reduce this waste.

Ever thought about going paper free, with the advancement in technology, you can get your bills on line and pay them online too. You can view catalogs and even read books online. If you need to print on paper, print on both sides, thus reducing your paper usage by half!

Turn Off Lights and Equipment

Save Energy and reduce your electric bill by turning off lights and equipment when not in use. Be sure computers, printers and other machines are powered down on nights and weekends or set them to sleep mode when you are away for short periods of time.

Clean… Green!

Look for non-toxic and irritant-free cleaning products. They’re eco-friendly and healthier for you, too! Have you considered green cleaning as a practice?

Take a Shine to Energy Star Products

Look for Energy Star certified equipment and products. They’ll save energy and money!

By making your workplace greener, you’re leaving a lighter ecological footprint. Going green helps create a healthier and more productive work environment, too, which helps boost your company’s bottom line… so it’s a win for everyone!
